Class Description: Art History will be a journey from ancient times to modern day art. This course will cover particular artists, symbolism, style and social/cultural aspects of movements and eras throughout history. It will involve both obtaining knowledge as well as using critical thinking skills to interpret and analyze pieces of art. Students will participate in hands-on art creation based on the week’s focus in order to both gain knowledge of artists, terms, concepts and movements as well as grow confident in their own creativity.

Class Description: Eighth grade English will focus on the novels The Bronze Bow and The Giver as well as a poetry unit. As middle schoolers prepare for high school, there will be a large emphasis on reading comprehension and responding to literature with higher-level thinking. The curriculum will emphasize grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and there will be an emphasis on writing skills and discussion in the classroom based on the current reading. Students will have required weekly homework, 2 cumulative projects and writing responses. In class participation is very important as students get comfortable sharing their ideas, opinions and responses.

Class Description: This class will offer students a foundation in American Sign Language. Students will learn fingerspelling and basic vocabulary necessary to communicate with someone who may be deaf or hard of hearing. We will learn and grow in our understanding of deaf culture and history while having fun studying a beautiful language! We will have various opportunities in class to practice and use the skills we are learning. The best part is, as we sign, we will shine for Jesus and use our hands to bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing worlds! Class Description: In this course, students will expand and build skills that were introduced and developed in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Students will have weekly assignments to practice the skills from our class time on Thursday. The solutions to all of the practice work are included in the Instructor Manual. Parents will be responsible for insuring that students complete the practice work on their own before using the solutions manual to check answers. There will be a weekly test for students to complete online using Google Forms. Grades will be based on completion of weekly practice work, tests, quizzes and a final exam.

Class Description: Geometry is a high school course focusing on points, lines, angles, circles, triangles, Pythagorean Theorem, proofs and more. We will have weekly assignments to practice the skills we learn during class from the student workbook. Tests will be given online using Google Forms. Grades will be determined from the weekly practice work, tests, quizzes, unit tests, a final exam and geometry projects.

Class Description: This hands-on zoology class explores the animals you see every day: pets at home, livestock on farms, and wildlife across Tennessee. Students will learn about animal behavior, anatomy, nutrition, health, and habitats through labs, activities, and real-world examples. We’ll study companion animals and responsible pet care, explore how livestock like cattle and poultry are raised and managed, and discover the amazing wildlife found in Tennessee’s forests, rivers, and fields. Class Description: Life Skills 101 is designed to prepare students for the responsibilities of everyday life. Through hands-on activities, guided practice, and real-world applications, students develop essential skills that promote independence, responsibility, and confidence. The course includes instruction in money management, budgeting, goal setting, time management, communication, and decision-making. Students will also learn practical strategies for household management, including organization, maintaining living spaces, planning schedules, and understanding responsibilities. Instruction in basic cooking skills covers kitchen safety, reading and following recipes, meal planning, and preparing simple, balanced meals. In addition, the course introduces basic survival skills, such as personal safety awareness, emergency preparedness, basic first aid concepts, and problem-solving in unexpected situations. By combining practical instruction with fun interactive learning experiences, this course equips students with foundational life skills that will support their success both now and in the future.

Photography – Spring Semester

Class Description: This class is a creative photography course designed to foster artistic expression while building technical foundations. Students will learn how photography functions as both a technical skill and an art form through hands-on practice, weekly assignments, and peer critique. Students will explore camera hardware, camera care, and various tools used to create different types of photographs. Fundamental techniques including composition, lighting, depth of field, and color contrastwill be introduced and practiced. Photography will be examined as a medium for artistic self-expression, storytelling, and communication. Ethical considerations such as copyright, privacy laws, and photographer rights will also be discussed to help students understand responsible image-making. Students will need internet access to upload work and be able to print photos either at home or a local printer like Walmart. Students will build a nice portfolio through this course. There will be no curriculum or books to purchase but there will be some expense in printing photos and supplies.
